Mickelsen family finally sees the beginning of Mickelsen Parkway

The groundbreaking ceremony on Mickelsen Parkway was this past week. It is the beginning of something new but we can't talk about the Parkway without talking about the Mickelsen family. The Mickelsen family have been a part of Winlock for over 100 years and we are blessed to see a road named after them for all future generations to remember.

On Sunday, August 16, Lewis County residents gathered for a Freedom Rally and Back the Blue event in Morton, Washington. Approximately 600 people gathered in Morton to show support for the Morton Police Department, law enforcement and first responders.

Additional positive COVID cases in Pacific County

Pacific County Health and Human Services received notice of five more positive cases of COVID-19 in Pacific County on Monday, August 10. Three individuals are connected to social clubs in south county. One is a family member of a previously identified individual. The fifth case is connected with recent travel to another state. This case developed symptoms while out of state and has now returned to Pacific County. One of these cases is currently hospitalized and four are convalescing at home.

On Tuesday, August 11, four additional positive cases were reported. All four individuals are connected to previously disclosed positive cases and are isolating at home.

Willapa Harbor Day of Kindness off to a great start

The Willapa Harbor Day of Kindness was a huge success this year. With only three weeks to organize and put goodies together, the volunteers did a great job. The pandemic caused some concern with the timing of the day since this first time was supposed to be at the same time as the canceled Willapa Festival.

The event gathered painted rocks, free coffee, popcorn, movie rentals, gas vouchers and gift certificates to randomly pass out. Goodie baskets were delivered to the local police departments, fire stations, and the Sheriff's office. Goodie baskets were gifted to residents and staff at local nursing homes.
