Industrial accident at the Centralia Mine property

On Saturday, December 29, 2018, at about 7:52 p.m., Lewis County Sheriff's Office and fire personnel were dispatched for an industrial accident at the Centralia Mine Property, located at 1044 Big Hanaford Road, Centralia.

Deputies arrived and learned a contractor employee was working on a 72-foot dredge in a pond. Contractors were working on dredging the pond to reclaim coal out of the mud from prior operations.

New Year begins with fatal car vs. pedestrian

The Washington State Patrol responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision on Tuesday, January 1 at 1:11 a.m. two miles west of Mossyrock on Wilson road.

Jareth W. Schroeder, a 31-year-old Eatonville man, was travelling east on SR12 driving a gray 2005 Ford Focus.

TRL proposals affect business hours

Timberland Regional Library is making some proposals that are not making the citizens of Winlock happy. One decision is to limit the library hours of operation to 32 hours per week.

Currently, Winlock is open 5 days a week but with the recent departure of the former Librarian Jaime Allwine, it's proposing to change to 4 days a week. Timberland did not include a new Librarian in their budget for Winlock for the budget year 2019. Many families, children, seniors and residents of Winlock have enjoyed our library for years.

Another storm slams the coast

"When will this end" has been a comment heard around the county and most of western Washington after another strong wind storm took a quick shot at the area. Forecasters predicted on the evening of Friday, January 4 that winds would be intense late in the night on Saturday, January 5 into Sunday, January 6. The peak winds were anticipated to strike around 1:00 a.m. and last only a few hours.

Sheriff's Office off to rocky start for 2019

Robin Souvenir took over as sheriff on January 1 after a changing of the guard took place at the Pacific County Sheriff's Office. What was hoped to start with a smooth transition has been anything but perfect.
