Donna's Place and the Toledo Lions Club are working together to present Jim Kellner, comedian hypnotist, on Saturday, May 5 at 8:00 p.m. at Donna's Place in Toledo. Jim Kellner was voted best hypnotist in the Northwest.

The proceeds of this event go to the Toledo Lions Club. The Lions Club is an organization that helps obtain food for the needy, glasses and hearing aids, distributes Christmas baskets, participates in Cheese Days, and works with the schools, veterans and other programs.

Donna Wallace, owner of Donna's Place stated, "Come on down for dinner, drinks and enjoy a good laugh. We are excited to be helping our local Lions Club with their endeavors. I have enjoyed having fundraisers at my place. We are here to help the community."

Detectives are investigating the death of a male located in the Toledo area on Saturday. On April 28 at approximately 12:03 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a report of a deceased male being located in the 300 block of Mandy Road, Toledo.

The girlfriend of the decedent, a 41 year old female of Toledo, called and advised she had been looking for her 46 year old male boyfriend. She indicated she had last seen him late Friday night into Saturday morning and had now located him deceased near Mandy Road at the I-5 overpass.

The Lewis County Fire District 15 (Winlock) received a call of a barn on fire on Friday, April 27, at 8:26 a.m., at 143 Morton Road in Winlock, Washington. LCFC 15 and four additional fire districts responded, including Vader, Toledo, Napavine and Chehalis. Firefighters initiated a defensive attack due to heavy fire conditions and structural instability. A total of 30 firefighters were at the fire which was controlled at 9:11 a.m.

Heather Earnhardt, head chef and owner of the very successful Wandering Goose restaurant in Seattle, has purchased the Tokeland Hotel with her husband Zac Young. The duo will spend the coming weeks and months renovating rooms and creating a new menu with a local twist.

Rognlin's Inc. of Aberdeen has been awarded the winning bid to install the roundabout at the intersection of US 101 and SR 6. Rognlins bid came in at $2,664,627 with Quigg Bros coming in second at $2,907,804.50 and Granite Construction coming in last at $2,979,937.40. The project was anticipated to cost approximately $2,523,621.50 by a Washington Department of Transportation estimate.

According to DOT the traffic signals at the intersection have reached their useful life as they have become corroded with salt water from floods along with salt air and are almost constantly in need of maintenance. DOT also stated that roundabouts offer better traffic flow, reduce serious accidents, allow safer travel for pedestrians, accommodate all sizes of vehicles, and ultimately save money.

Michael Hackinson, a project manager from Washington State Parks, met with a group of around thirty-five Pacific County residents along with a few from Lewis County on Monday, April 23 at Willapa Valley High School. The topic of the meeting was to discuss and get community input regarding State Parks applying for a $2,000,000 grant to repair and replace roughly 10 miles of the trail outside Raymond all the way out past Menlo on the Willapa Hills Trail.

Through the grant State Parks plans to repave 10 miles of trail east of Raymond with compact gravel allowing for multi-use of the trail for pedestrians, bikes, and horses, just as has been previously done on the trail from Pe Ell east towards Frances. The bridge near Case's Pond would be the starting point of the project with necessary repairs there being made to the bridge.

State Parks also plans to install a bathroom along the trail somewhere in the Menlo area. Current estimates suggest that State Parks is looking at the area near the Pacific County Fairgrounds, as a lot of people already park there, and it has room for a restroom to be installed. The plan would be to install a single restroom that is ADA accessible along with several parking spots.
