It seems sometimes that the quest for information moves in cycles. We might get several calls in a month about anything from Assisted Living and Adult Family Homes, to Meals on Wheels.

Next there could be run of questions about Home Care agencies, and so on. One of the recent flurries has been about legal advice--where to look, what's involved, etc. Since many of us have limited contact with legal types until we need it ASAP, let's do a little information sharing.

What happens to a person's debt after they die? My mother has taken on a lot of medical and credit card over the past few years and I'm worried that my brother and I will be responsible for it when she dies. What can you tell me?

Over the years, some parents have asked me when the proper time is to expect their children to help with the chores and other household duties. I recently read an article in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) that touched on this issue; it caused me to reflect on my parents' expectations, as well as my wife's and my expectations for our kids. I've included some of those ruminations, as well as others' thoughts below. I recognize each family is different, so your mileage may vary.

The Napavine City Council met for the first time since the former city attorney resigned during a resolution to remove the firm Hillier, Scheibmeir and Kelly as the town's legal counsel.

A noticeable difference was new Interim City Attorney Jim Buzzard, who started the meeting with an executive session to discuss matters important to the City of Napavine.

The Winlock/Toledo United soccer club has had an unbelievable season. After only allowing three goals to be scored against themselves in league, and being undefeated in league play with no ties, they entered into Districts the prohibitive favorite. However, they would need to accomplish something that is notoriously hard to do in sports--namely beat a very good team for the third time in a single season. They faced White Salmon Thursday night, May 11, in a giant revenge game for the Bruins, who had lost to United 3-0 and 2-0 during the regular season.

Do you have ideas that would make the city of Vader a better place to live? A motivated group of Vader residents is orchestrating a big meeting to be held at 10:00 a.m. on May 20 at the Assembly of God Church fellowship hall in downtown Vader. The objective of this event is to encourage anyone in Vader and the surrounding areas to come join in an organized effort to create a citizen-driven action group whose purpose is to make improvements that are possible when people come together in the spirit of unity and volunteerism.

Monday, May 8, dawned on the 2B division in fastpitch softball with several teams' fates still undecided. The Cardinals of Winlock, the Chinooks of Kalama and the Toledo Indians all were playing in games that had major playoff implications. First off, the Cardinals would face the Indians. A game that, if won, would keep Winlock in control of its playoff destiny.

Winlock High School students received a Traffic Safety Award on May 5 from the Washington State Patrol.

Due to what the Washington State Department of Health has determined to be high bacteria levels, six commercial shellfish harvesting areas around the state have been closed with more than a dozen more facing the same threat.

Council also in agreement with county on sales tax increase

Students and faculty of South Bend's Mission Creek Christian School recently returned from a trip to Peru where they engaged in activities that included the distribution of water filters and staple foods like rice and beans to impoverished residents of the city of Iquitos. Representatives of the school have made the trip annually for the past 11 years.

Raymond - A three-year-old boy was struck by a car in the vicinity of the Riverdale Heights Apartments on the evening of May 11 but avoided serious injury.

SOUTH BEND - Christina Lee Yanez, 36, of Ocean Park was sentence to 1 year and 1 month in prison for criminal mistreatment and delivery of marijuana.

On April 29, Pacific County sheriff's deputies and an ambulance crew responded to the report of an intoxicated 9-year-old at the Dunes Bible Camp swimming pool. After transporting the minor to the hospital and providing stabilizing medical care Deputies learned Yanez had intentionally given her child a brownie laced with "dabs," a highly concentrated form of THC, which is the active ingredient in marijuana.
