A second meeting to gather public input on the design of the proposed Gateway Center took place on Dec. 1 at Aberdeen's Rotary Log Pavilion.

Project Engineers for the North Shore Levee Project convened at the Rotary Log Pavilion on Tuesday, Dec. 6, to present a proposed levee system that would include dikes, floodwalls, raised roadways, and pump stations aimed at providing flood protection for both the cities of Aberdeen and Hoquiam.

The City Councils of Aberdeen and Hoquiam will be reviewing the TimberWorks Resiliency & Restoration Master Plan the week of Dec. 12 and will consider adopting the plan by way of resolution.

Martha Lampitt, 93, came to Vader from Eastern Washington in the late 1920's. On June 30, 1942, Martha married Eddie Lampitt. The couple lived in the Winlock-Vader area until 1953 when they settled in the Cowlitz Prairie area of Toledo.

Many have asked, "What is a Giving Christmas Tree?" so I thought I would explain it. A Giving Christmas Tree is a tree that has tags hanging from it with gender and ages. These tags are for kids whose parents cannot afford to give them presents due to their financial situation. This is where the community comes in; there are many children in our area who won't otherwise have a Christmas, so if you can afford to do so, please grab a tag and make a kids Christmas.

Recently, the Winlock City Council approved the contract for the Toledo Police Department. Since the contract was approved for another year, the Town Crier decided it was time to let the residents know what exactly they are getting for their money.

Members of the Winlock Basketball Association were in attendance for a recent $10,000 donation given by the Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation. Those in attendance were: President Sarah Gifford, Vice President Randy Hall, Treasurer Daleyn Coleman, Secretary Hedy Mitchell, and members-at-large Kim Whitehead, Steve Dean, and Mark Velasco. From the Winlock School District were Superintendent Dr. Richard Serns, Athletic Director Ben Suhrbier, Principal Brian Maley, Winlock Girls' Head Coach Tori Nelson, and Winlock Boys' Head Coach Nick Bamer.

At their regular meeting on Dec. 6, the Pacific County PUD #2 Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to pass a resolution appointing Chief of Engineering and Operations Jason Dunsmoor to the PUD's general manager position. Dunsmoor will replace the retiring Doug Miller, who has helmed PUD #2 since 1994.

RAYMOND -- Pacific County Economic Development Council President Toni Williams recently announced the hiring of Jim Sayce as its new Executive Director.

Outgoing Pacific County Commissioner Steve Rogers said he'd been reinvigorated by a recent vacation when the Herald caught up with him in his office on the afternoon of Nov. 30.

The annual Shop with a Cop event was held Saturday, Dec. 10, beginning with a breakfast at the Raymond Elks Club. Participating youngsters then had the opportunity to spend $100 at Dennis Company on items of their choosing with help from area law enforcement officers. Michelle Layman, who is involved with organizing the event, noted that there were 19 kids participating this year. She explained that participants, who are chosen by their schools based largely on need, also receive a stocking and a bag of groceries to take home to their families. Local companies and organizations that contribute to the program include Weyerhaeuser, Dennis Company, the Elks Club and various other local civic organizations. Participating law enforcement officers came from the State Patrol, Department of Fish and Wildlife, Pacific County Sheriff's Office, and police departments serving Raymond, South Bend, and Shoalwater Bay.

The South Bend City Council met on Monday, Dec. 12. On the agenda for the meeting was the interview for the applicant for Council Position #1.
