Hoquiam church burglarized
The Saron Lutheran Church in Hoquiam was burglarized on Sept. 12. Law enforcement is working to establish whether the incident is related to a similar recent burglary at a church in Aberdeen.

Man apparently dies in plunge into Hoquiam River to avoid police

A 35-year-old Hoquiam man was attempting to elude the police when he plunged into the Hoquiam River on Wednesday morning. A search and rescue diver located a body presumed to be that of the man, though the body was unable to be immediately recovered.

New oil rule; contingency plans: Railroads must meet same spill response standards as pipelines, ships

OLYMPIA - Beginning Oct. 1, railroads moving oil through Washington must demonstrate the ability to immediately respond to an oil spill if one occurs. The Washington Department of Ecology adopted a rule Wednesday establishing contingency planning requirements for railroads transporting oil in bulk through the state.
