A lot of progress, interest in SBHS baseball, fastpitch

SOUTH BEND - After getting the go-ahead to add baseball and fastpitch softball for student-athletes by the South Bend School District Board of Directors by a 4 to 1 vote two weeks ago, the wheels are turning to get the program in full swing. Discussions have started with city officials.

Asphalting patches on Willapa and Kendrick Street

The South Bend City Council met the evening of Monday, August 22, with one member of the council absent, Karla Webber. The Mayor lead the meeting with the pledge of allegiance before approving the minutes from the previous meeting as well as the current meeting agenda. Mayor Julie Struck reported on the correspondence that the city has received since the last meeting, that included a letter from a Thomas L. Giacoma. The letter is paraphrased here but can be read in full detail in the Letter to the Editor section of this current August 24, 2016 issue of the Willapa Harbor Herald:

Change orders to Willapa Operations Center Building

The Pacific County PUD met on Tuesday, August 16 for their regular bi-monthly commissioner's meeting. General Manager Doug Miller started the meeting out with the Pledge of Allegiance, before listing what correspondence the commissioners have received since the last meeting. Miller moved to the manager's report.

Raymond Fire Dept. responds to playhouse fire
Only a pile of ash and burned lumber remains of the play-set in Riverdale allegedly set on fire by a young child on Thursday afternoon.
Raymond Fire Dept. responds to playhouse fire

The Raymond Fire Department (RPD) responded to a small fire at 1710 Park Avenue in Raymond (area known as Riverdale) Thursday evening at 4:37 pm. A small play-set with a house, slide and swings was ablaze. The playhouse was about 8 feet high and 12 feet in diameter made of wood and plastic. Four children were playing when the fire was set by a young child. None of the children were injured.

Silva gets 23-plus yrs for infant murder

SOUTH BEND - Aaron Ayala Silva, 27, of South Bend, was sentenced to the maximum authorized by the statute for the assault and murder of his 11-month-old child. The sentencing took place in Pacific County Superior Court with Judge Mike Sullivan presiding Friday afternoon.
