Members of the Ocean Shores business community have raised concerns to the City Council about the carnival that was hosted over the Fourth of July weekend at the Ocean Shores Convention Center. There was a calling to assess the success of the carnival, as well as some letters of disapproval. The discrediting letters cited things like the fact that such events do not actually succeed in drawing more people to the area, while others cited that the carnival was taking away from what business does come to Ocean Shores.

One may have noticed the increase in people out on the street, looking down at their cell phones. This increase is credited to the launch of a brand new game called Pokemon Go on July 6. Pokemon has been around since 1995, and is a product of Nintendo Co., Ltd, but has tailored a new kind of game for the new generation.

A $25,000 arrest warrant has been issued for a Pierce County man alleged to be behind an unlicensed marijuana growing operation in a rented building in Chehalis's industrial district.

A state Department of Corrections officer was in the Napavine area to check on a client when he happened upon a robbery. On July 13th, two men were seen leaving the area of the 100 Block of Forest-Napavine Road East.

Steven Nowlen of Toledo, 60, had been charged with first-degree child molestation, but his case was then dropped after the Lewis County Prosecutors deemed there was not enough evidence to further their investigation of this hear-say case. Nowlen appeared in court in early June and was shocked to know this case was being investigated.

Jody M. Bagnariol, a 63 year old Hillsboro OR woman and her passenger Elisabeth R. Rudolph, a 50 year old Seattle woman, had to be airlifted on LifeFlight to Peace Health Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver after their Ford Focus was sandwiched between two cars in a rear-end collision.

The Washington Department of Ecology has directed a Winlock company to repay the state $30,887 for the cost of responding to the 2015 August oil spill caused by the warehouse fire at 803 NW Kerron Avenue. The oil spill killed thousands of small salmon, trout, and other fish. Olympic Trading Corporation also has been issued a $1,000 fine for spilling oil into state waters. Olequa Creek, the waters in which the oil entered, is a tributary to the Cowlitz River.

The Raymond City Council met on the night of Monday, July 18 for a city council meeting. Not present at the meeting were Fire Chief Todd Strozyk as well as Police Chief Chuck Spoor. The public section was brimming with citizens, so many in fact, there were not enough seats and most had to stand. Members of the public brought in picket signs that said things such as "Save the City Park, no PUD parking lot!!"

Incumbent Frank Wolfe is running against challenger Fred Hill in the District 2 Primary for Pacific County Commissioner. The Herald posed questions to both candidates to provide voters with insights as to where they stand on important issues facing the county. The Herald has not received a response from Hill. The voting period for the primary is July 15-August 2. Here is Part II:

On Friday July 15th Pacific County Road Crew was working late at about mile marker 65 on Hwy. 101, when around 8:00pm the pilot truck went over into the shoulder and almost tipped. Three of the wheels were off the ground. Emergency Medical was dispatched but thankfully no one was hurt. Traffic was already being flagged at the time due to the work being done on the road so it didn't cause too much more of a delay.

SOUTH BEND - South Bend Clerk-Treasurer Dee Roberts has been elected as the next president of the Washington Municipal Clerks Association (WMCA) by the WMCA membership. Roberts will hold the distinction for one year after she is sworn in at the WMCA's annual conference in March 2017.

SOUTH BEND ­- Aaron Ayala Silva, 27, of South Bend, and a Raymond High School graduate, entered guilty pleas to murder in the second degree, assault of a child in the third degree, and rape of a child in the third degree stemming from an August 2015 incident. The proceedings took place in Pacific County Superior Court Friday afternoon.
