Aberdeen Finance Director resigns

After 10 years of employment with the City of Aberdeen, Kathryn Skolrood has given notice of her resignation as the City Finance Director effective April 25, 2016. Skolrood has accepted the position of Chief Financial Officer for the Grays Harbor PUD.

New Ownership of Chris' Motorcycle Shop in Hoquiam

As of November, 2015 there are new owners at Chris' Motorcycle Shop in Hoquiam. Mike and Jody Peterson are running the shop, which is open from Tuesday to Friday at 9am to 6pm, and on Saturday from 9am to 3pm. Chris' Motorcycle shop insures that you don't have to go out of town for an easy fix to your bike. The shop also offers quality biking and other sports gear. The Petersons have been running the shop since November in 2015.

State Park Free Day on Earth Day

In honor of Earth Day, Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is offering a free day at all state parks on Friday, April 22. Visitors will not need to display a Discover Pass for day-use visits to state parks.

On Sunday April 3 at 2:06 am, Hoquiam officers were dispatched to the area of the Simpson Avenue Bridge regarding a female heard screaming for help.

Trusted Swanson's Employee Accused of Stealing

Debra Pickar, an employee of Swanson's supermarket in Hoquiam has been charged with First Degree Theft in connection with allegations that she stole thousands of dollars from the store while working as a cashier. The 53 year old allegedly told police officers that within the last five years, she had taken an estimated $10,000 to $12,000 from the store, citing that she used the cash for household expenses and to help a family member.

Two Administrators Suspended

Two Grays Harbor Juvenile Detention administrators have been discovered to have placed a 16-year-old in isolated confinement for a week in March. Detention Director Gerald Murphy has been suspended without pay for 30 days and the juvenile facility's director, Greg Reynvaan will be suspended for a week without pay once Murphy returns from his suspension.
