The Quinault Indian Nation is slated to accept $22.8 million from the federal government as its cut of a 25 year old class action lawsuit pertaining to a failure by the Congress to fund tribal programs. The whole settlement is $940 million, which is then split up between 699 tribes and tribal organizations, Quinault's portion being the second largest out of all of the tribe's cuts.
The Ninth Annual Chocolate on the Beach Festival has come and gone as of the February 26th weekend. Specialty businesses and vendors came from all over Washington for an opportunity to exhibit their tasty handmade chocolate treats. There were multitudes of gourmet bonbons, ice creams as well as different types of gourmet toffees and chocolate themed alcoholic beverages.

OCEAN SHORES-The Ocean Shores Police Department discovered two deer poachers last month, on Monday, February 22. A resident reported hearing gunshots and seeing a vehicle driving back and forth in the area. The resident called 911 and an officer was on scene within two minutes.

The Castle Rock City Council met on February 22nd and was called to order beginning with old business. Representatives from the Festival of Lights in Castle Rock spoke about their idea for a spring bazaar saying the last one in November was so successful, the vendors came asking for one in the spring. The council gave their permission to have one and the idea was granted to the Festival of Lights committee. The spring bazaar will be in Exhibit Hall on April 30th from 9 AM to 4 PM.

There is a new business at the site of the old Patrizios in the Everybody's shopping center. The owners of the local Dairy Queen, Kim and David Minton, acquired the store location in June of 2015 and opened the new restaurant, "the Tidemark Grill" in November of 2015. The Tidemark Grill is open from 4pm to 9pm on Monday through Friday and from 11:30am to 9pm on Saturday and Sunday.
The Raymond High School Cheer Squad was recognized for academic excellence by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association for the winter sports season, Class 2B. The Gulls, with a 3.625 Grade Point Average (GPA) were honored for having the highest GPA within their category in the state.
Arline Robinson, one of the original residents of the Old Willapa area, has just recently celebrated her 102nd birthday. To put that into perspective: Robinson's grandparents came to the area in covered wagons, on the Oregon Trail. Robinson lives in the same house that she moved into in the 1940's. Robinson has witnessed some of the more revolutionary events that have occurred in the last century, such as electricity, the prohibition, the first motor vehicle, as well as the general settling of the area. Robinson recalled some of the more prominent memories she still hangs onto.
