The Grays Harbor Herald had the honor of being invited to the capital to shadow Representative Rossetti as he went about his day, giving insight into the daily life of a Washington Lawmaker. When I arrived at the Capital at 8am, I was told to go to a landmark sun dial that sat behind the Legislative Building. From there I met Rosetti and was taken into one of the buildings, and I followed Rep. Rossetti into a committee meeting room, where the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee had been conducting a meeting.

At 1:46 am on February 2, Aberdeen Police Officers were dispatched to E Street, due to a report that multiple gunshots were heard coming from the apartments at that location.

In the spring of 2014, the City of Aberdeen joined forces with the Bozeman Group to identify projects and ideas for downtown for the next three to five years.

East County Rotary will have a special speaker this week, Virginia Grandorff. She is one of the outstanding leaders of Relay for Life. This effort to fund Cancer Research is one of the largest fund raising efforts for all of Grays Harbor County and Pacific County. Our members are very involved in community activities including the Relay for Life. I personally like to bowl with the Beerbowers at the Elma Lanes. This program is called Ba's Brigade.

The Elma Chamber of Commerce has held their 9th Winter Wine Festival. The festival was held at the Grays Harbor County Fairgrounds and Event Center in Elma on the weekend of Saturday, January 23 and yielded a huge success. Live performance lounge acts crooned the crowds as vast lines of people moved along the perimeter of the building where the wine vendors lined the walls. The wine vendors dished up samples of all types of their best wines and consumers and connoisseurs lined up to try each wine of their interest.

You may have seen or needed the service of Flowers by Pollen in the downtown of Aberdeen. Flowers by Pollen in downtown Aberdeen has recently changed ownership, as well as rebranded to Harbor Blooms and Gifts. Sheril Woodruff, who has been working under Pollen for five years, is taking up the floral business, "We picked that name because it sounded like a very positive name and we wanted to include the harbor," said Woodruff.

Those of us who are involved with animal rescue and adoption in Grays Harbor, Mason, and Pacific counties know that it truly takes a village to work toward our common goal of "No More Homeless Pets!" February is National Spay-Neuter Awareness Month and a perfect time to showcase the statistics of how many pets and free-roaming animals were altered in 2015 and give thanks for the tireless efforts of these groups and volunteers.

On January 24, 2016, at 10:01PM Hoquiam officers responded to a report of a display of a weapon at a residence in the 700 block of 4th Street. Further information provided by dispatch was five to six subjects had entered a residence uninvited and assaulted one of the occupants with a pair of nunchucks.

On Thursday, January 28, the Aberdeen Police Department Investigations Section received information that a 46 year old male that lived in Aberdeen was communicating with a minor for immoral purposes. The victim was a 14 year old female living in another city. Aberdeen Police Detective Jeff Weiss was assigned the case and started his investigation. Weiss obtained a search warrant on January 29 which was served that day at the home of the suspect. The man was arrested and booked into the City of Aberdeen Jail and arraignment is pending.

It was a month ago that the Human Rights Commission announced it's ruling on the usage of public restrooms by transgenders. Legislators in Olympia have discussed the legislation on Wednesday, January 27 after some public complaint.

Two days have been approved for clam digs at Copalis Beach in Grays Harbor.

There is good news for commuters who use US 12 east of Elma. One lane of highway reopened at approximately 8:15pm on Thursday, January 28. The highway is down to one single lane, with speed reduced until further notice. The road was closed earlier on Thursday, January 28 after debris from an adjacent slope broke loose. WSDOT geotechnical engineers spent the day assessing the stability of the slope. They determined that the slide site remained active, and in order to ensure the safety of the traveling public, recommended the highway remain closed until temporary measures were put in.

On the night of January 26 the Toledo Indians Girls Basketball team took to the court against the Onalaska Loggers.

Members of the Lewis County Regional SWAT Team served a search warrant near the 100 block of SW 10th Street, Chehalis, this morning at approximately 0850 hours. The warrant resulted in the arrest of three Chehalis residents.

At 6:05 pm on January 28 the Vader City Council met for their second Council Meeting. During the roll call the Council decided that Ruth Crear's absence would be unexcused seeing how no one had heard from her. After the Roll Call and the Pledge of Allegiance the Council went into the time of The Mayor's Report.

For the second and final meeting of the month, the Winlock City Council met to discuss the matters of the city for that night. Prior to the meeting the City Council had met for the Lewis County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan.

Marcelle Yamamoto passed away January 29, 2016 in Raymond, WA. She was 95.

The Raymond City Council met at 6pm the night of Monday, January 1 for their regular twice monthly meeting. Head of Department Police Chief Spoor was missing from the meeting, as well as Public Works Director Dean Parsons. The council dealt with the regular business by approving the agenda for the current meeting as well as the minutes from the previous meeting. After the council dealt with the minutes from the previous meeting it was time in the meeting to hear from the public.

Razor clam diggers can look forward to more than a month of razor clam digging opportunities at Long Beach on the Washington coast.

At 4:27 pm on January 30, the Washington State Patrol responded to a two vehicle collision that took place at mile post 22 on State Route 6. This is about 22 miles east of Raymond.
