Chief Torgerson reports that the Aberdeen Police Department just completed a facility lighting retrofit project, converting all incandescent and florescent lights inside and outside the building and courtroom to LED (Light-Emitting Diode).

Grays Harbor Raceway along with the 2015 class champions are teaming up for the "Champions 4 Community Food & Toy Drive" this Christmas season. The champion drivers will spend an afternoon shopping for food for the area food banks and toys for the community toy drive.

The Cosmopolis City Council Meeting began with a request for 'roll call' from Finance Director Cheryl Turner. Mayor Chestnut led the pledge of allegiance to the flag. The meeting's focus centered on the budget, maintenance and infrastructure.

We have so many things to be thankful for. We have the freedom to say and/or write what we believe. Anything we don't like we can say so.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency has a portion of its farm loan program funds specifically set aside for minority and women producers announced Judy Olson, State Executive Director. "While FSA farm loans are available to all qualified applicants, by setting aside funds specifically for minorities and women, it ensures that they will receive a portion of available funds," said Olson.

Harbor Drug in Hoquiam is just now rolling out their Christmas decor, among other holiday themed displays, Harbor Drug has always had exceptional displays out for the holidays. The displays are said to only get better leading up to Christmas.

The Hoquiam Police Department is looking for young adults, between the ages of 16- to 20-years of age to join the Hoquiam Police Explorer Post.

Grays Harbor's own holiday light show, Jinglelights, benefites Grays Harbor's Shop With A Cop program. A program that supports deserving children during the holiday season.

A new business can be seen in downtown Aberdeen near the Bank of America and City Center Drug. The team responsible for the new business, Coastal Printworks, consists of local Aberdeen Police Officers Steve Timmons and Andy Stocker as well as Ocean Shores Police Officer Aaron Glanz.

There is a new business in Downtown Aberdeen, across the street from the Breakwater Restaurant, alder|creative is a graphic design and content strategy marketing business. The business is owned and operated by Britta Folden and Eric Jackson, both of which are assisted by Chelsea Royer.

There is new ownership of the Tully's Coffee in Hoquiam. Owners Samuel and Cristina have been in the area for about five years. Sam had worked at Harbor Paper and was also working in Real Estate before this. " I've always had a passion for coffee. Being Hispanic from the Caribbean we drink a lot of coffee. And so when this opportunity came available, I thought wow what a great opportunity to service people with coffee; with what I like to do," said Samuel.

Each year Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen runs their program Stockings for Soldiers.

A Grays Harbor County Sheriff's Deputy was assaulted while arresting a 49 year old Elma man earlier this week. Chief Criminal Deputy Steve Shumate has said that just before 8:30am on Wednesday morning, Deputy Jeremy Holmes was investigating an assault complaint at the mobile home park located at 15 Murray Place of Elma.

Now we have Thanksgiving behind us. We are in the Christmas season and all the good that the people of Grays Harbor do for those who need some help. One of the events that really shows what our people think about helping others is in December. It is called the Kettle Klash and helps the Salvation Army do everything they can to help people who need a little help to keep warm, dry and enjoy some of the Christmas spirit. Last year this luncheon, which will be held on December 3rd at the City Church in Aberdeen, collected $22,000 for helping those in need.

A tragic accident while mushroom picking lead to an Aberdeen woman's death this week. The Grays Harbor County Sheriff's Office reports that at about 4:30pm Wednesday afternoon, deputies responded to the 600 block of U.S. Highway 101 of Cosmopolis with what was originally reported as a rescue call.

On a personal note: this season helps recalibrate my perspective, seeing the silver lining in every cloud. Recent arsons in South King County hit my old neighborhood. While saddened by the news, present-day blessings illuminate my life.

On November 12 the Vader City Council met for their scheduled meeting of the night. At 6:03 pm the meeting was officially called to order under the direction of Mayor Ken Smith.

On the cold winter night of Monday November 23, the Winlock City Council met to discuss the matters of city business. For the start of this meeting the council immediately began the matters of Old Business.

Thanksgiving is this week and many of us have been around Winlock for many years and for this we are very thankful. I can remember going to school in Winlock and every year we would make a turkey with our hands when we were in grade school, I still have one of those to this date. When I was young, we went to the neighbors across the creek for Thanksgiving and we had a 50 lb turkey, have you ever seen a 50 lb turkey? A 50 lb turkey takes 12 ½ hours to cook and many days to eat, this year I am only going to cook a 20 lb turkey, seems a little small compared to 50 lb Tom Turkey!!

It's hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner. How many of you remember how we used to go down to the fire station in downtown and wait for Santa? I can remember being a little girl and waiting in the old fire station for Santa to come visit, boy were we excited. It felt like the entire town was there, everyone was hanging out in the cold waiting for the jolly fella to show up. When he finally showed up all of us kids would scream and jump around and our Mothers would watch in amazement. I will never forget the joy of getting to meet Santa in the Winlock fire station; those were the good ole days!

The South Bend City Council met with a full attendance on Monday, November 24. They amended the agenda by deleting the executive session and adding a discussion on the Central Avenue Project Change Order. The council approved the amendment and got on with the approval of the agenda as amended as well as the minutes from the previous meeting of November 9.

The Willapa Harbor Chorale will lift their voices in celebration of the Christmas season during their 46th annual Christmas concert Sunday, December 6, 7 pm at the historic Raymond Theatre. Forty singers will join their voices performing Christmas and holiday music.

SOUTH BEND -- The Pacific County Economic Development Council named seven Businesses of the Year for 2014 during its Annual Meeting on Nov. 12.

Caleb C. Peil, 41, of Ocean Park, entered a guilty plea to attempting to elude a police vehicle and was sentenced to a year in prison. The action took place in Pacific County Superior Court on November 20.

Donald McDonald Clise, 85, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away after a long battle with heart disease on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Capital Medical Center in Olympia, WA.

Edna (Tiny) Marie Watt 89, a South Bend resident was called home by the Lord on November 19th .

On the evening on November 27th, Katherine Esther Jones passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in Centralia, WA at the age of 93.

Orin "Jay" Givens, 86, of South Bend, Washington, passed away on November 15, 2015, at home surrounded by family.

John W. Simons, 49, of Ilwaco pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine and was sentenced to a year in prison.

PACIFIC COUNTY -- In an effort to help organizations, groups and individuals who are looking for a little extra funding for events and activities that reduce intergenerational poverty in North Pacific County, Willapa Community Network has released the application for their 2016 Mini-Grants. Mini-Grants range from $200-$1,000 dollars and anyone may apply, including student groups.

There's a new hair salon in town, in the Maneman Electric building at the location of Dalores Sowa's old salon. The new business in town is called All Tangled Up Salon and Tanning, owned and run by local hair stylist Katrina Ege. Ege started in Raymond, interning at Lisa Renee's hair salon after receiving training at Paul Mitchell The School in Portland and at the Grays Harbor Beauty College in Aberdeen.

It's been windy and raining. Sounds like pretty much every season here except for a brief summer. However, the rain is becoming decidedly more sideways--and sometime even stings when the wind pushes it.

Elliott Murdock was named the Most Valuable Player of the Pacific League for football. Murdock rushed for 1,228 yards and 17 touchdowns on the season. The Offensive MVP was saul Gonzalez of league champion North Beach, and the Defensive MVP was Jonny Law, also of North Beach.

The South Bend First Baptist Church celebrated its 125th Anniversary Sunday, November 15, 2013. A "Through the Years" power point presentation was part of the church service led by Pastor Aaragon Markwell. A delicious Harvest Dinner was held following the service.

We just had our fill of turkey and gave thanks for all we are blessed with. However there are those in our community that have not been as fortunate as many of us. It is the time of year to open our hearts to those less fortunate in this cold winter holiday season.

CENTRALIA - Led by a well-balanced offense and a rock-hard defense, Pe Ell-Willapa Valley advanced to the semifinals of the Class B State Football Playoffs with another end-the-game-with-the-clock-running victory - this time Morton-White Pass was the victim with the Titans romping 47-7 Friday night at Centralia High School's Tiger Stadium.

The Willapa Harbor Ministerial Association is sponsoring the annual Christmas Toy House, Saturday December 19 this year. The Toy House is free to those parents that need help this Christmas in providing toys for their children. The Toy House will be held in the basement of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Raymond from 9am to 4pm.

The Raymond girls opened Tuesday night with a home game versus Elma. The Lady Seagulls host Hoquiam Wednesday and entertain Ocosta Saturday. Raymond's boys started the season at home against Elma Monday and travel to Ocosta Thursday.
