Burglary suspects arrested on Route 6

MENLO - Both William Wilhelm and Brenda Wilhelm were booked into the Pacific County Jail on several charges May 25th after the Pacific County Communications Center received a call from a concerned citizen advising that they had observed a male and a female loading items from a vacant house for sale into their vehicle.

SOUTH BEND -- Pacific County Prosecutor Mark McClain makes good on his campaign promise to bring civil legal services to Pacific County.

NORTH COVE - On May 25th at about 9 pm, Deputy Randy Wiegardt and his K-9 partner "Ciko" were patrolling the North Cove area of Pacific County when he noticed a male subject standing near a vehicle parked at a residence on Willow Lane.

Christopher S. McLaughlin, 33, of Long Beach, entered guilty pleas to first degree assault of a child, five counts of third degree rape of a child, and one count of failure to register as a sex offender. McLaughlin now faces 240-318 months in prison.

SOUTH BEND - The South Bend City Council meeting was scheduled with a light agenda but was amended by Mayor Pro Tem Robert Hall, serving in the absence of Mayor Julie Struck.

The Raymond City Council meeting was held at the Carriage House Museum May 18th and heard from members of the public about the new proposed water rates.

A fundraiser will be held on June 14 at Pioneer Grocery to help raise money for young Avah Ogilvie, who has been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

Over the past weekend Willapa Harbor area high schools held their commencement ceremonies for the graduating classes of 2015.

Winlock will be celebrating its 79th Egg Days festival this weekend with a packed list of family-friendly activities for area residents to enjoy.

Flying K and Napa Auto Parts celebrated their 20th anniversary in Toledo on Saturday with hotdogs and soda for $0.20 each, with all proceeds to benefit the Toledo Food Bank. Owned by Rick and Tonya Lovell, the couple said their ability to remain in the area for the last two decades has been in large part to the support of local residents.

Young students in South Bend took the first period of their school day and started out with a little taste of horror.

The Delores Soule Fund will provide two $5,000 scholarships to students presently attending a college/university. To be eligible, the student must have junior or senior status at the beginning of the fall session, 2015.

Monday, June 8, the Willapa Valley seventh grade class went out to Darlene Smith's farm for a yearly project that Willapa Valley students get to experience each year as part of Mr. Bannish's and Mr. Ege's science classes.

The Teen Advocacy Coalition (TAC) has partnered with Let's Draw the Line, a state wide prevention effort, to support youth in making healthy choices and avoiding alcohol use. Through activities such as Substance Abuse Prevention Week, After Prom Party and Town Hall, TAC has provided local youth with safe alternatives to have fun.

Angelica Vasquez, a senior from South Bend and at the end of her high school journey, has just received the Gates Millennium Scholarship.

This will be my last opportunity to remind readers of Ryderwood's Second Annual Ryderwood Sock Hop coming up this Saturday, June 20. Local DJ Steve Smith will spin your Rock 'n' Roll favorites from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Community Hall Auditorium. Dig out your "dancing duds" (or not) and come out to the end of SR 506 for a fun-filled afternoon. Everyone is invited to stay for the Potluck dinner that follows at 5 p.m. The Tip Jar will be donated to the Café.

There was a full house at last Saturday's Open Mic. Some visitors and a newbie to town joined the regulars for some very fine music. Open Mic is the 2nd Saturday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Café. All are welcome.

Vader's big Fourth of July bash is just a couple weekends away. Starting at 2 p.m. on Main St., the festival will feature live entertainment, local vendors, events and parades for the family, with a large-scale fireworks display to begin at 10 p.m. This celebration is totally free to attend, so be sure to bring family and friends.

The City Council has said "yes" to adding a potential name change to the November Ballot. Local voters will now be asked to choose between Vader and Little Falls as the name of the town, so get the word out and get residents to the polls.

It is here, Egg Day is finally here! Friday night starts the annual Egg Day weekend. As many of you know, this is the time of year I always look forward to. I thought I would go back about 35-40 years and reminisce about the old days. How many remember Danny Voie dressed as the Rainier Beer? I always thought it was one of the best parts of the parade. I will never forget the empty can's coming out of the bottom, like the beer just went to the bathroom. Maybe it was one of those where you had to be there, but every time I think of the Rainier Beer, I think of Danny Voie. Thank you Danny for entertaining us all those years!

Many are familiar with the old adage...It ain't over 'till the fat lady sings...and it was proven at the final night of Raymond's City League Basketball of the Willapa Harbor Basketball Association.

Track teams from Raymond, South Bend and Willapa Valley made their way out to the Rainier High School from Wednesday, May 13 to Saturday, May 16 to perform at the Pacific 2B sub districts.

Sunday May 17th, the Pacific Northwest Region PORSCHE club of America enjoyed a tour and lunch at the Northwest Carriage Museum. Over 50 people and 27 cars packed the museum and parking lot, comparing the old transportation and new! Visit www.nwcarriagemuseum.org

J. J. Haggerty, president of the defunct Raymond Trust Company, for whom the officials of this county have been searching diligently ever since he failed to appear for trial at the January term of court, and who had twice been reported under arrest within the past month, first at El Paso, and later at San Francisco, and is now in the custody of the officers at Los Angeles, where Sheriff Bell has gone to bring him back to Pacific County.
