While I didn't attend this year's Thanksgiving Community Dinner, I heard more than 100 people attended. Talk about fun, food and fellowship! It gets real quiet once the food has been served.

The Red Hats ladies will get all decked out in their red and purple on Thursday and head down to Parker's Restaurant in Castle Rock for lunch and Decoration Exchange. They will leave from the Café at noon.

Winlock News 12.03.14

Thanksgiving was a wonderful day, I started making pies early in the morning. Why is it that it takes all day to cook and 1/2 hour to eat it all up...then of course we were stuffed like the bird!

It's definitely Christmas time and we had a small dusting of snow over the weekend. I would like more snow but not enough to cause too many problems. As a kid we always wanted it to snow enough to cancel school, we would worry about making up the days missed later, we just wanted to play in the snow.

The Toledo City Council has accepted a bid to begin removing dangerous limbs and trees from Kemp Olson Memorial Park with the hope of re-opening the facility before the end of the year.

Winlock re-opens skate park in response to request for use

The Winlock City Council has chosen to re-open the city's skate park after it had been closed due to ongoing vandalism, among other problems, citing a need to provide recreation for area children.

Approved during the council's Nov. 24 meeting, officials opted to re-open the park during what had originally been a discussion about a potential interlocal agreement with the Winlock School District to make the park available as a resource for students in the APOLO program, located just across from the park, to earn PE credits.

Winlock weighing Municipal Court against District Court

The Winlock City Council has begun looking into whether or not they would save money by dissolving their municipal court and sending traffic and misdemeanor cases to Lewis County District Court instead.

Discussed during the council's Nov. 24 meeting, Council Member Aaron Mummert, who serves on the city's Finance Committee, said he was looking for fellow officials to give their consensus to at least investigate if such a change would be feasible, not saying he is displeased with the services provided by the court but rather is "trying to save the city as much money as possible."

Toledo departs football season with 3rd place trophy

Few can say that the final outcome was unexpected, but many were surprised the way the WIAA semi-final between Napavine and Toledo played out last Friday.

The Tigers of Napavine were big favorites--undefeated and playing the Indians for the second time this season. Tiger fans had to be confident after a dominating 36-6 result back in October. Toledo played great football during the re-match on Friday, but in the end fell to the Tigers by a score of 28-22.
