ABERDEEN - Taking this game to the wire, Raymond pulled off a gamble to make a last minute win advancing them into the next round facing Napavine. The Raymond Seagulls stepped it up and grabbed a first round win in their match-up against the Braves of LaConner, 35-32 Saturday at Aberdeen.

Diggers will have plenty of opportunity to put razor clams on the Thanksgiving table during a week-long dig that begins Nov. 20. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) approved the opening, which runs through Nov. 26, after marine toxin test results showed the clams are safe to eat. No digging will be allowed before noon.

Donations of crafts, artwork and other items are on display now at the Winlock Timberland Library in time for their annual Artisan Silent Auction. The largest fundraiser every year for the Friends of the Winlock Library, area residents have until Nov. 26 at 2 p.m. to cast their bid on a multitude of items, with organizers hoping to break last year's record-setting total of $1,700.

The Toledo Food Bank is asking area residents to help support their annual Christmas Toy Drive to help brighten up the holidays for local families in need.

Toys and other gift items are needed for children between infancy and their teens and can be dropped off, unwrapped, at donation boxes at Toledo Market Fresh, the Toledo Community Library and Timberland Bank. Also needed are socks, pajamas, gloves, basic cosmetics and sports-related toys. Monetary donations may also be made to Timberland Bank into an account set up for the toy drive.

Here's hoping everyone is staying warm during the super cold weather snap. While we didn't get the high winds and snow, it was a fair amount colder than predicted or recorded. I believe that the nearest official weather recording stations are in Toledo and Castle Rock, where the river has a warming effect. For our little valley, the cold air (or rain) comes in from the coast, encounters Abernathy Mountain and drops its "load". For example, our low on the morning of Oct. 15 was 16º while the "official" reading was 27º.

A memorial service for Jasper Henderling-Warner is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at the Assembly of God Church, and local residents are invited to attend. Those seeking more information, including specific times (yet to be established as of press time) may call City Hall at (360) 295-3222.

The Park Board says they are all out of Plush Pippen Pies until December and would like to thank community members to supporting this important fundraiser. Volunteers had spent the last several weeks with freezers full of pies and, as of this weekend, say they have sold out. The next pie fundraiser, in time for Christmas, is expected to begin the first week of December, with more details to follow. It's that time of year again; Thanksgiving is just little over a week away. This Thursday, Patti Murray will be selling her wonderful gift baskets at Cedar Village; all the proceeds go to our local kids. She will be selling her baskets on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The baskets include baking, coffee, dude and house warming themes. There are also a Christmas and Seahawks baskets and they range from $5 - $20. The items in the baskets are mostly donated and the sale proceeds will give kids in our area clothing and school supplies. It takes Patti a lot of time to go around to the businesses and ask them to donate items. Please stop by and buy a basket or two and help the kids in our area.

Bruce Allen Oakerman passed away November 9, 2014 with his loving wife, Peggy by his side.

Bruce was born July 3, 1950 in Grants Pass Oregon where he lived through high school graduating he joined the Army in 1973 and served almost 10 years in the medical corp as a Clinical Specialist. After discharge he went to school to be a welder & heavy equipment mechanic. A number of years later he returned to schooling once more to become an Electrical Engineering Designer, until retirement in 2010.

DeLaura Cook, passed away at Providence Centralia Hospital on Nov. 14, 2014, following a short illness. She was surrounded by family as she peacefully entered God's kingdom.

The Toledo City Council has upheld a decision to close Kemp Olson Memorial Park in light of dangerous trees and is intending to apply for a grant to help correct the problem long-term.

Discussed during the council's Nov. 17 meeting, they reviewed a recommendation from the Park Board, who had been asked to review the council's previous decision to close the park as of Nov. 8 due to trees and limbs likely to fall during heavy wind or rain.

Indian Harriers Grab 7th Place at State

The Toledo Indian Cross Country team took 7th place among 16 teams in the WIAA State Cross Country Championships at Pasco on Nov. 8.

Senior Ashton Fraser took 15th place in the race that included 137 runners. He covered the hilly 5,000-meter race over the Sun Willows Golf Course in 17:00.06.

Students safe after Winlock bus fire

A group of grade school students were unharmed after a heater caught fire in their bus the morning of Nov. 13, according to the Lewis County Sheriff's Office.

It is believed dust and other debris may have ignited and while the bus was traveling on the 500 block of N. Military Rd. and, when aid responded, the fire appeared to have burned itself out.

Authorities are seeking help solving a vehicle theft taking place in Centralia on Sept. 1.

It is believed, sometime between 1:30 a.m. and 7 a.m., an unknown number of suspects entered a driveway on the 1900 block of Taylor Rd. and stole a 2003 Toyota Tundra with Washington license plate B62022W. Also within the vehicle was a Sterling .380 pistol. The estimated loss is $6,400.

Both the employees and supporting districts of Lewis County Medic One say there must be a significant change in the agency's management in light of significant deficit projections and frustration with current leadership.

Both Operations Chief Grant Wiltbank and the Board of Directors governing Medic One have come under fire for their responses to efforts by Lewis County Fire District 5, based in Napvine, to look elsewhere for ambulance services.
