Child burned to death
Wanda Beten, the three-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Beten of Riverdale was so badly burned this morning that she died within an hour and a half after the accident happened. It appears that Mrs. Beten had placed the child in a high chair near a cupboard and stepped across the street to a neighbor's house. The baby began rummaging through the cupboard and found a box of matches, which it lighted, setting fire to some paper, and this in turn set fire to the child's clothing. The father was the first to reach the child, but it was so badly burned that death soon resulted.
