Scheduled for the weekend of March 21, the Dug Tour will be landing at Harley’s Bar and Grill in Raymond. The Dug Tour, a charity event under the Spody Fest umbrella, is out to raise money for former Raymond resident Doug George, who is battling a brain tumor.
The Willapa Harbor Chamber of Commerce introduced its new director, Michelle Layman, at last Monday's (March 10) monthly meeting. Layman officially began her role as director in March after training in the job in late February with her predecessor Laurie Johnson.

With the passing of Recreational Marijuana use back in November of 2012, Washington State officials have been working to prepare for the potential wave of new commerce. Some estimates tout a national marijuana industry in the ballpark of $20 billion, if taxed at specific levels.

The Toledo City Council has approved a contractor to build their new sewer plant and construction is expected to begin by mid-spring.
Rotchy Inc., based in Vancouver, was selected as the lowest responsible bidder during the March 17 City Council meeting after having submitted an estimate of roughly $7.4 million for plant construction. The company came with a positive recommendation from City Engineer Mike Johnson, of Gray & Osborne, who said his company is currently working with Rotchy Inc. on a separate project in Olympia.
The City of Vader may be looking at a financial surplus in their General Fund for 2014 as City Hall begins to close the books on last year.
It was reported during the March 13 Vader City Council meeting that, between unexpected tax revenues and lower-than-anticipated expenses during 2013, the city could be looking at a surplus of between $25,000 and $30,000 in unexpected carryover.
Vader will be hosting a public workshop this Friday to help residents understand the many challenges facing the city’s sewer services.
Taking place between 1 pm and 3 pm in City Hall, the workshop will feature Department of Commerce official Cathi Read, who has been working with Vader as part of a state outreach program to help develop small rural communities.
Host Wahkiakum defeated Willapa Valley by 17 strokes at a boys' golf match last Thursday at Cathlamet. North Beach was a distant third at 251.

Peninsula resident Bill Grennan was honored as the Pacific County Democrat of the Year at last week's annual Democrat Crab Feed at the Willapa Harbor Community Center in South Bend. Presenting the award are State Committeeman Doug Kess and Pacific County Democrat President Karen Spackman.
