Razor clam diggers can rejoice and be thankful. Eight digs are scheduled from November 30 through December 7 on harbor beaches. Then there’s another eight days of tentatively scheduled digs starting December 14. Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Coastal Shellfish Manager Dan Ayres chatted with the Herald while walking his dog Sunday afternoon.

Ayres said the clamming during the fall season has been exceptional on the Twin Harbors.

Christmas gift giving is something I struggle with every year. Fortunately for my sister-in-law Ruthie in northern New Jersey, I've come up with things over the years that seem to make her happy. This year she will be getting canned salmon and tuna, white chicken chili mix, herbs and spices, nuts and chocolates, a pretty cloth flower and – if I get it done in time – a special something made by me. Of course, a Christmas card, too!

The Egg Days Committee is picking up steam and asking residents for input to help plan Egg Days 2014, including the festival’s theme and upcoming fundraisers.

Reminders of events taking place the weekend of are also being announced, with the hope of encouraging residents to look forward to and plan ahead for Egg Days.

The big Thanksgiving Dinner is on Thursday and it doesn’t get any better than that. It is truly a Community event that is a tradition for my family. When asked what they want to do for Thanksgiving, the grandboys will respond, “Go to Ryderwood, of course!”

The Town is looking festive and will become more so in the next few days. The winter banners are hung, lights are going up at residences and around Town along with fresh greenery. Thanks to all who take such pride in our little village.

It’s hard to believe that it’s Thanksgiving already. Jeez, where did the summer go? And autumn disappeared in the blink of an eye. On that note, did we even have fall? It felt like one day it was warm, and everyone was in shorts complaining about droughts, and then it was cold and rainy. There wasn’t even much in the way of fall colors. Such is Washington weather, I suppose.

Even so, I’m very much looking forward to Thanksgiving this year. I’m eating at a friend’s place, so I don’t have to even cook that much. After some of the holidays I’ve had in recent years, that sounds just like heaven. Oh, well. On with the show…
