Toledo High School senior Colby Boone was crowned Mr. "T" (Toledo) at Toledo High School Wednesday evening.
Boone and the other nine contestants were judged on beachwear (far from traditional), talent (less than high quality) and personality/interviews, much like traditional pageants. The esteemed panel of judges including a principal, two THS teachers, The Cheese Days Queen and Miss Lewis County.
Children from the Ugandan Orphans Choir were met with a packed house March 6 during their evening performance at Toledo First Baptist Church.
One of many stops to be made during their 2013 tour, the performers, five boys and five girls ages 10 to 12, shared both contemporary gospel songs in English and traditional Ugandan songs in Swahili, set to rhythmic tribal drumming also performed by the children.

CHILDREN'S EASTER EGG HUNT March 30 at 1 p.m. The grassy area next to the Post Office will be the official site for the Annual Easter Egg Hunt for children between the ages of toddler to 12. If it rains, the event will take place at the Lions Hall. Calling all knitters and crocheters! Now you can meet at the Olequa Senior Center on Thursdays at 10 a.m. Expert and novice alike are invited to join this non-club! The meetings are free, although you are welcome to donate $1 for using the center at that time. This is open to all ages, just come with lots of enthusiasm and, obviously, yarn and whatever supplies are needed! If enough interest is shown, they plan to keep this up weekly.
Matthew Tyler Matlock, (Ty), a lifetime resident of Raymond, Wash., passed away on March 11, 2013, at the age of 36 after a courageous nine year battle with paralysis resulting from a previous car accident. Ty was born in Aberdeen, Wash. on December 24th 1976, to Mike Matlock and Vicki (Triplett) Flemetis. He graduated from the Raymond School District.
Despite reports to the contrary, Toledo is still waiting to hear the final word on a $5 million Department of Ecology grant for construction of a new sewer plant.
During the March 4 Toledo City Council meeting, Mayor Jerry Pratt said the city may have been shortlisted to receive the funds but the proposal still needs approval from the State Legislature, which is currently considering the elimination of monies from funds for infrastructure improvement.
The Vader City Council is still seeking to fill a vacated council position after resident Sharron Ross declined to accept her appointment to the board, according to discussions during their March 5 meeting.
In a letter sent to City Hall earlier that day, Ross said she had reached the personal decision to withdraw her name from consideration, stated Mayor Ken Smith, who added Ross expressed her gratitude for being considered.
South Bend HS Athletic Director Tom Sanchez released the awards recipients from the SBHS Winter Awards Banquet held last Monday night (March 11) at the school’s cafeteria.
The collision occurred around 7 a.m. on the 200 block of Hemenway Rd., west of Winlock, after the driver of a 2004 Chevrolet pickup crashed into the yard of a nearby residence, causing damage to a fence and a mailbox. Deputies attempted to locate the owner and driver of the vehicle, but had since found it has change hands numerous times and were unsuccessful in finding the suspect.
Sarah J. Meyer, 27, a transient formerly of Winlock, is wanted by Lewis County Superior Court on a no-bail warrant related to attempted metal theft.

If there's anything Daylight Savings Time can remind us of, it's the difference one less hour of sleep can mean for the rest of our day.
Our bodies naturally want to develop a rhythm by which we slumber, and that rhythm often sets the pace for the other natural cycles in our life. So, as we mourn the loss of that 60 minutes we won't get back for the next several months, here are some reminders of why enough sleep is a great thing and too little sleep can lead to too many problems.
