The 88th Annual Democratic Crab Feed takes place this Saturday at the Willapa Harbor Community Center in South Bend. True, it’s not an election year, but several dignitaries will be there to offer their points of view on the status of local, state and national politics.
Fishing prospects look bright this year for chinook in Washington’s ocean waters and the Columbia River, according to preseason salmon forecasts released today at a public meeting in Olympia.
Opportunities for anglers also look good in Puget Sound, where coho and pink salmon runs are expected to be strong this year.
This year’s gathering of Pacific County Republicans at their annual Lincoln Day Dinner will have a 2nd Amendment focus. Prominent gun rights activist Alan Gottlieb will be the featured speaker. The Lincoln Dinner will be held in South Bend on Saturday, March 23, at the Willapa Harbor Community Center at First and Alder streets.

The Willapa Harbor Festival will continue for at least another summer with the acquisition of Doug Hamilton as the new director.
HIGHWAY 101 – Crews building a wider, safer crossing on US 101 at Bone River reached a major milestone last Friday when they set eight girders on the new bridge. The girders measure between 90 and 140 feet long and weigh up to 72 tons. They form the backbone of the new bridge, which is being built to withstand coastal flooding and a 1,000-year earthquake event.
Questions Abound over Wrecked Man-lift
A handful of local residents voiced their complaints to the P.U.D. No. 2 hierarchy at last Tuesday’s (March 5) afternoon bi-monthly board meeting before a crowd of 15 in attendance. Some issues brought up to PUD Commissioners Mike Swanson, Diana Thompson and Ron Hatfield, General Manager Doug Miller, and attorney Jim Finlay included price gauging, high salaries and wrecked equipment.
