Alder House, the only assisted living facility in northern Pacific County, is in need of a new roof. The building, constructed in 1995, has a roof that has out-lived its usefulness. On July 30th, a breakfast was held at the Willapa United Methodist Church to help raise funds for this needed structure. The success of this event has led to a second breakfast that will be held in South Bend at the First Lutheran Church located at east Water and south Adams streets. Breakfast, will be held Saturday, Sept. 17, and will be served from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 am. A full breakfast will cost only $6.00 for adults. Children 12 and under will be charged just $3.00. A family of 5 or more will be discounted.
Estimates to replace the existing 24,000-square-foot roof exceed $100,000. Approximately half that amount has been garnered from various charitable foundations. Local organizations have also contributed toward this goal. Recent fundraising events, including July's breakfast, have led to donations up to $14,000.
Alder House provides individualized services to older or disabled adults who need special services, allowing as much self-sufficiency as is possible for its residents. This non-profit 501(c) 3, facility is owned and operated by Willapa Independent Senior Housing, a five-person board made up of two members from Willapa Harbor Hospital board and three community members. The hospital provides oversight in regards to the operation of Alder House as structured in former contracts.
