for coming to Bay Center to discuss several issues concerning our Community and County. County Commissioner Steve Rogers, an undersheriff and one of his lieutenants, accompanied him.

Topics included budgets, recent cutbacks due to the economy, how his office works around the smaller manpower availability, and jail space with its limitations and how calls are handled. He went over new crime fighting equipment (including a new “rescue boat” and the use of a two-dog canine unit”), electronic equipment and a number of other methods used within his department.

One of the main weapons Sheriff Johnson has been able to utilize against crime is a very close communication system between police departments from other Washington counties and with the Oregon police.

Also discussed was the proposed marijuana warehouse/plant in Raymond. His presentation was very informative and extensive. He answered any and all questions as they were asked. Sheriff Johnson is working to bring this type of “Community Meeting” to the entire county. If he hasn’t been to your area or town, I would highly recommend contacting his office and scheduling a talk.

Thank you again from the Bay Center Association.

Ed Whitford, President,

Bay Center Association
