2015 Primary Election

The 2015 Primary Election is slated for August 4, and there are four candidates running for Mayor of Aberdeen, four running for Mayor of Elma, and three running for Mayor of Hoquiam, three running for Mayor of Montesano and three running for Mayor of Westport. Of those candidates, only some of their statements have been provided. The provided candidate's statements as well as the tax levy measures for the August primary election are as follows:

City of Aberdeen Mayor

Jack Micheau- Vision. Integrity. Experience. The change Aberdeen needs.

Erik Larson- My priorities: Good jobs for local people - work with the Port of Grays Harbor to create opportunity and bring in responsible industry that provides skilled jobs. Use our local knowledge and the ideas of experts to clean up downtown and many of our neighborhoods, and make it a fitting gateway city to Olympic National Park and the ocean beaches. Listen to the people - elected officials rarely have all the answers, I will lead by listening to the people and moving forward in a way that values the citizens that have elected me.

Incumbent Mayor Simpson is running for re-election.

City of Montesano Mayor

Ken Estes- After having a career in Law Enforcement, owning a successful business and now serving a term as Montesano's Mayor, I have gained solid experience and leadership abilities. This enables me to manage a budget, direct employees and determine essential services. My priorities are to have open communication, keep taxes and utility rates as low as possible, keep streets safe and drivable and maintain our excellent fire and police departments. It is an honor to serve my community. A vote for Ken Estes ensures a mayor with solid experience and leadership.

Vini Samuel- The citizens of Montesano need better," said Samuel. "There's no reason to have TV trucks from Seattle camped outside our city hall, or to waste hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars on lawsuits and rabbit holes. It doesn't have to be this way. We need to rebuild the trust between city employees, management and city council and with the public. Let's get back to business and get things done for the good people of our town.

Tyler Trimble
I believe that having a great working relationship with community groups such as the Montesano Community Center, Girls Softball Association, Little League, Youth Soccer, etc. will not only be advantageous to the city but have a complete benefit to the citizens of Montesano and surrounding communities.
Having the courage to step up and into the battle to speak for what is right. When times were tough, someone needed to accept the challenge and I am ready and energized to make Montesano the place we all know it to be.
A lifelong resident of Montesano and council member, Trimble is a graduate of Montesano High School, Grays Harbor College and holds a BS in Business Administration and Human Resources from City University. Trimble is a professional referee for Division I, II & III NCAA, NAIA and Community College Basketball as well as local high school events.

The cities of Elma, Westport and Fire Districts 3 and 14 are asking for tax levies, all under their Proposition No 1.

This is what they are asking for:

Elma - For Police Operations: A total of $250,000 in excess of property taxes at $1.28 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. To collect in 2016 only, in support of Resolution No. 610.

Westport - For Emergency Medical Care, Ambulance Service and Fire Response: The sum of $497,500. Approximately $1.68 per $1,000 of assessed valuation.

Fire District 3 - Emergency Medical Care and Fire Suppression Service: The sum of $112,000. Approximately $1.97 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, for the year 2016.

Fire District 14 - Emergency Medical Care and Ambulance Service: The sum of $160,000. Approximately $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, for the year 2016.
